iFail

Still trying to figure out this streaming shit. In the meantime, back to youtube...

Breakthrough: My experiment in streaming has proved successful on Macs. PCs soon to follow if the interwebz gods allow.

i haz web skills?

Holy hell I think I figured out how to post songs. Take that technologeez! No more depending on home-made youtube videos of crappy photo montages. I can address all that music I've been neglecting due to lack of suitable footage.

Like a good American I am a fan of excess, especially when it comes to music. Rufus Wainwright was a victim of said saturation many years ago. I listened to that gravely yet buttery voice constantly. This was my favorite of his at the height of my obsession.

When he hits "Paris" I still get goosebumps.

hot hot heat

My office is always a sub-zero ice box. Keeps the robots efficient or something. Anyways, I usually start my day by cranking the space heater (which I keep hidden under my desk), steeping a scalding cup of my favorite tea (which I keep hidden in the kitchen), and toggling between NPR and warm sounding music.

Peaking Lights' new album is all desert heat and campfires. Not every song is to my liking, but these two are transporting me to a warmer place with a red hot sun, blinding sandstone and sun drowsy rattlesnakes.

Bring us heat Sun Gods!

solstice

It is the first day of summer and because of this glorious occasion I'm giving you the greatest gift of all.... consequence-less ice cream? nope. ability to breathe underwater? better. New Radiohead video. They put the RAD in Radiohead. See what I did there? You're welcome.

Thom is my end-all-be-all.

and how!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of listening to Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings live (and for free) whilst sipping beer and noshing on strawberries in a sun drenched eucalyptus grove. I know what you're thinking, and no, I did not die and go to heaven. Though Sharon knows, as well as I do, that that's the closest I'll get.

'Twas heaven in the form of Stern Grove Music Festival, which kicked of its season with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Their performance was an absolute blast. Her energy never ceases to amaze me (and make me feel like a sack of lazy bones). Until we meet again, Sharon.

snooze button

There was a time in my life when I didn't dream at night. Well, I guess neurologically speaking I had "dreams" but none I remembered in the morning. Just blankness as I slept. Looking back, it was a dreary thing. Time went on and I changed a few things in my life and the dreams came back. The end.

Dntel is one of those great twinkling-lights types of artists, who at one point collaborated with Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) to create this song. I'll be honest - I'm not a big Ben Gibbard fan (over consumption?) but any song based on a dream about Chan Marshall (Cat Power) and Evan Dando (the Lemonheads) is fine by me.

afternoon delight

Andrew Cedermark is a young and talented little bean who bears a striking resemblance to Harry Potter (in my opinion at least, having seen little of either). My friend took me to a show of his in Brooklyn last fall and I was really tickled by how honest his performance was.

I don't really know what's happening in this video, but I found it on his record label's YouTube page so we can assume it's intentional. For clarification this song is simply called Hard Livin'. Sans 'in China'. Capisce?
