come back comeback

Low on energy, stuffed with work, send help Kate.

This song makes my bones want to jump out of my skin and run somewhere incredible.

apparatizer

I can't wait for the new Apparat album. But I will. Because I'm a patient little bean when I want to be. Here's one track to wet your palate. Isn't it grand?

This is the scene where the guy breaks free from the crowd at the airport and starts running in slow motion towards the closing departure gate as the plane carrying his one true love backs out of the terminal and she looks out the plane window, because she somehow managed a window seat, and she spots him and he, miraculously, sees her and their eyes meet even though the distance/size of windows/glare would otherwise make that impossible. Wait, what?

And because I'll be away next week, attending a wedding in Louisiana, I'll leave one of my favorite Apparat songs for this little blog to nosh on.

flying pigs

How weird is this? Electronic version of Harvest Moon. MIND BLOWN. But it's quite good: sunny-day-bicycle-built-for-two sounding. I love Neil Young and hold his music in high regard, so I could see how some might find this sacrilege. But c'mon, you can't help but bob along.

release

Everyone has a very private, very valued collection of albums that make up their experience as people. Each album is cherished and memorized and each represents a different moment of growth. These albums don't come along very often, and when they do its hard to foresee the power their presence will have. I just learned about Glasser (where have I been?) and upon listening to the first notes of their album Ring I knew I had another to add to my arsenal. The connection was immediate and I've been listening nonstop all week.

A week which, by the way, has been shit. My frustration is rising, my patience wearing thin and my jaw sore from stress induced grinding. Glasser could not have come at a better time. If there are two things I'm a sucker for its tribal beats and lady singers wailing out their cosmic pain (see White Hinterland or Niki and the Dove). And Ring is filled to the brim. I listen and I feel brave. I get chills and I feel stronger. Hell yes.

cinematastic

Fun video, decent song. Toro y Moi's "How I Know" from Underneath the Pines. It's Scooby Doo meets Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart video meets Beach Boys.

mahalo zooey

I thought this was so cute and fun. Zooey Deschanel is up there with St. Vincent and Phylicia Rashad in my little black book. And its the goofy dude from Parks and Recreation! Where's my invite to this silly little jam session? Fun breather for a Friday.

What, you thought I was going to mention Ms. Rashad without a Cosby teaser? Please.

clean break

The ever empowering, always cinematic M83 is just the cure for your St. Vincent hangover. "Midnight City" is the first single off their new album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming which is set to be released in October. Take two listens and call me in the morning.

Just listen to that sax. Jazz hands!

lastest

Due to overwhelming viewer feedback (read: I decided this on my own sans my zero readers) this will be the last St. Vincent installment. But we'll enjoy two songs for the price of one post. Deal? Deal.

spills and thrills

"See I traded my plot of land for a plane to anywhere." Take me with you Annie! We can spoon in coach.
